10/6/2023 0 Comments Zhang jingchu rush hour 3![]() Yuan Wenqiang, the President of China Film Group's import and export branch, said, "We saw no good market potential in this film, and thus decided not to import it."Ĭhina has already brought over several Hollywood blockbusters this summer, including Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Transformers, and the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Chan and Tucker are a little older, and it has been six years, but Rush Hour 3 still delivers. The action comedy Rush Hour 3 will not be released in China, despite starring Chinese star Jackie Chan along with sidekick, American comedian Chris Tucker, officials from the China Film Group told the Nanfang City News yesterday. Certainly, with Chan handling the action and Tucker the comedy, he’s got two of the best, but he puts them in a position to succeed by following the Rush Hour blueprint: keep it fast-paced (under 95 minutes) and colorful, and give the audience a big action finale set-piece. ![]() His sequences are quick sharp and exciting no matter the size. Ratner, an underrated director, knows how to handle action. He and Chan have an effortless flow that the six years between films hasn’t hurt. Tucker, who hasn’t made a film since Rush Hour 2, has his motor mouth on full speed from the opening. Plus, the Eiffel Tower sequence – as he falls, jumps, runs and battles hand-to-hand with the villain – makes up for it. Chan may have fewer action sequences than in the previous two Rush Hour films, but he is still a human special effect. The screenplay feels pretty much by-the-numbers every so many minutes an action sequence, every so many minutes a comic bit, and, in between, some OK dialogue. They have to deal with a French police inspector (Roman Polanski) who isn’t happy with them, chases through the streets, a cab driver who wants nothing to do with them, and a beautiful mystery woman (Noemie Lenoir). Their search takes them from a casino to the Folies Bergeres to the film’s finale taking place on the Eiffel Tower. A pretty funny interrogation follows with Carter and Lee getting a little help from a nun.Īs a result, the two are off to Paris to find out the identity of leader of the triad. In a shootout at the hospital where Han is recovering, the boys capture one of the gunmen who speaks only French. Unable to take him down for emotional reasons, Lee ends up letting him get away.ĭetective Carter (Tucker), who has been demoted to traffic cop, ends up back with Lee in order to try to break the triad, hoping to uncover its leader. Cornering him, Lee comes face to face with Kenji (Sanada), a friend who was like a brother when Lee was a child in an orphanage. Guarding Han is Inspector Lee (Chan), who, in one of the film’s very well done action sequences, chases the assassin up, down and over downtown. Nathanson brings characters back from the original film, the Chinese Ambassador Han (Tzi Ma), and his daughter, Soo Yung (Zhang Jingchu), now around 20 years old.Īs the film opens there is an attempt on Han by the Chinese triad at the World Criminal Court in LA. If anything is weak it’s the screenplay by Jeff Nathanson who wrote Rush Hour 2. Also returning is director Ratner and the three have the old magic. Well, maybe a step, but the action is still pretty amazing and the comedy pretty funny. ![]() It’s been six year since Rush Hour 2 but Chan and Tucker haven’t lost a step. ![]() Starring Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Hiroyuki Sanada, Max Von Sydow and Youki Kudoh.
